The Netherlands will be guest of honour at the 2015 edition of the Brazilian Design Biennial, that opens on 15 May in the Brazilian city Florianópolis. This design biennial in southern Brazil is the most important design event for Brazilian designers and attracts more than half a million visitors.
The Dutch exhibition O Palácio do Povo will be presented in the historical museum of Florianópolis, the former governor's palace, Palácio Cruz e Sousa. The title of the exhibition refers to the original use of the museum. Where the museum used to be the exclusive place for power, it will now be transformed in a palace for the people, creating a living room for the inhabitants of Florianópolis. The exhibition will show innovative work of more than 40 Dutch designers, including works by Marjan van Aubel, Dirk Vander Kooij and Elisa Joolen.
Dirk Vander Kooij contributed an Endless Chair and a Chubby Chair to the Biennial.
