Designer Dirk Vander Kooij knows exactly how to grab the attention of passersby. The astute designer used his famous 3D printing robot (the one that makes furniture from recycled fridges and e-waste) to place newly finished pieces outside his shop's window in Eindhoven.

Dirk Vander Kooij’s space is located in a former Phillips building on the edge of Eindhoven’s Strijp area, next to Piet Hein Eek’s studio. An award-winning designer, Vander Kooij’s design-build method materialized when he found an old 3D printer while studying at the Design Academy of Eindhoven. Nowadays, he uses an old industrial robot that's been personally programmed to make his zero-waste furniture from scrap materials...

This friendly robot gives new life to old fridges and e-waste, saving them from scrap yards and landfills while producing great-looking designs. The thick threads of plastic used in the 3D printing method create honest designs by clearly showing how the chairs were fabricated.
