diffuser cabinet
The Diffuser Cabinet follows Dirk van der Kooij’s research into functional ornamentation. A strictly observed pattern of blocks forms this freestanding totem, which serves to diffuse sound in open spaces. Nestled inside is a series of nine drawers.
Referencing Dirk’s background as a woodworker, the cabinet is a surprising deviation from recycled plastic. The principals therein, however, are representative of the broader collection: how can ornamentation serve an object’s functionality?
