meltingpot, double base
The meltingpot double base is a vessel designed to showcase mutable contents: reclaimed synthetics. Disparate sources maintain their individual properties through a house-developed extrusion process. Each molten pool is then intuitively mapped, puzzling together in a sprawling landscape. A robotic arm works in collaboration with the cartographer’s hand.
The gravity of the monumental double base deceives its origins: refrigerator interiors, lawn furniture, and other discarded synthetics find new consequence as ubermaterial. Measuring a solid 40mm thick, the composite reintroduces plastic as indestructible and autonomous.Once milled and polished, the finished table consists of a rounded plateau resting atop two conical supports. The meltingpot double base is available in two sizes: 240 or 480 cm. Respectively, the tables weigh 160 or 430 kgs. A truly colossal reimagining of waste, the table assumes the role of repository/archive.
